Martin -

Someone else asked about this the other day. I'm going to blog about it next week. The analysis was truly glossed over, and even if we allow a pie chart to show percentages, side by side pies will not help in the analysis.

Jon,

I'd like your comments on the following chart:

http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-of-the-day-most-people-arent-buying-apple-ipads-2010-2

I've made myself a column chart, and it really changes a lot the visibility....but I'd like to know your opinion on that.

Regards,

Martin

Jon you definitely find some gems. I love the pie slices for 0%.

[Tony] "Hey Jon, can you pass me a slice?" [Jon] "How big?" [Tony] "Um, how about zero". Nom nom nom, that zero % slice sure was tasty.

I really could do just fine with never seeing another pie chart, ever. Nice work Jon.

An excellent analysis (again) of how the "thousand-words" can be mis-painted with the wrong picture.

As Mark Twain wrote: "Figures often beguile me, particularly when I have the arranging of them myself" as he then went on to quote that old chestnut: "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics".
