The family of PTS Excel Charting Utilities has welcomed a new member: The PTS Cascade Chart Utility. Many customers of other utilities have asked about this type of chart, and I have answered with a new program. A cascade chart shows one value vertically (e.g., revenue) against a cumulative value horizontally (e.g., market segment size).

Usually the data is sorted in decreasing order of the vertical value. The chart can be filled in (above) or shown in outline only (below).

Multiple series can be stacked with unique fill colors…

… or stacked unfilled with unique line colors.

The data can even include positive and negative values.

The utility was delayed several weeks because of an unexpected incompatibility in Excel 2007. But the new workaround has been tested, and it’s ready to go.
For information, visit the PTS Cascade Chart Utility page. Details about installation and use of the utility can be found at the Cascade Chart documentation page.
The utility is priced at $29 US until Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 26, 2009). After that it will be priced at $39 US.

Cool. This would have saved me significant time when I produced the histograms with uneven ‘buckets’ in the post I did on Chandoos blog at http://chandoo.org/wp/2009/07/24/medicare-chart-critique.

This is very impressive, especially the unique unfilled color lines. Very clean.
